If she was trying to shock, she certainly succeeded. When Trudie Styler spoke
of her 'swinging' sex life with Sting, even the unflappable American DJ Howard
Stern seemed a little taken aback.
She and the singer enjoyed wife-swapping and going to sex clubs, she said in a
phone interview on Stern's New York radio show. She had also enjoyed the
attentions of women.
Whether Miss Styler was serious, fantasising or simply getting into the spirit
of Stern's 'shock jock' format, is uncertain.
Her revelations, however, were remarkably colourful - even by the standards of a
couple who have boasted of their nine-hour 'tantric' sex sessions.
Stern kicked off Miss Styler's long list of stories about her sex life by
asking, 'Are you guys still swinging, or what?' to which she replied, 'Yeah,
big-time honey!'
Convinced that something must have been lost in translation, Stern's sidekick
Robin Quivers inquired whether the 49-year-old mother of four knew what
'swinging' meant.
She replied: 'Swinging is like wifeswapping, right? Of course we're doing it.
We'd like to do it with Howard and that gorgeous girlfriend of his - I'm not
sure which one I'd prefer.'
Stern, who is famous for getting his guests to talk about sex, appeared shocked
by the eagerness of Miss Styler's
replies, at one point asking 'What is going on with you?'
But Miss Styler insisted she was being honest - although it was clear she was
smiling.
Asked if she had been 'getting it on with other girls and that sort of thing',
she answered: 'It's rock and roll, isn't that what we're supposed to do? I'm
European, we do all that stuff here. We have a lot more fun than you guys.'
She said she and Sting, her husband of 12 years, attend sex clubs, where she
watches as he meets women.
'I don't get jealous,' she said. 'He likes to go these clubs where they all get
naked. I just sort of hang out and talk to them, and polish my nails.'
Recalling one of the last times when she shared a woman with her 52-year-old
husband, she described going to a German sex club in 1996. 'It was fun. It was
one of those German places where everyone is doing it,' she said.
When Stern asked, 'Did she touch you?' Miss Styler replied, 'Of course she did.'
She admitted she was 'very turned on' adding, 'I'm a very womanly woman'.
And asked if she had been with a woman often she replied, 'many times'.
Miss Styler also flirted with Stern, telling him: 'I feel like I am having phone
sex and turning you on.'
When he asked if he could have tantric sex with her she replied, 'Of course you
can, but the thing about tantric sex is that it takes a really long time.'
Miss Styler, who appeared on the show to promote a concert in aid of the
rainforests, finally developed a coy side when asked whether her husband 'did'
men, and whether the couple still took drugs.
When asked about taking Ecstasy she admitted: 'I've done everything. I've been
around the block and then some.'
When Stern labelled Sting a ' perv ' , she defended their behaviour, saying: '
Are you trying to turn us old rock 'n' rollers into something legit? That's
boring.'
